Not knowing

Everyone feels like a fraud. I recently read an AMA (ask me anything) on reddit with famed composer Hans Zimmer, where once again he discussed worrying about people hating his work, feeling inadequate and not being able to get the job done. If one of the greatest living composers struggle with this, what chance do us mere mortals have?

I would propose that no one actually knows what they are doing, at least not at first. The courageous dive in and make up the rules as they go. You rarely meet a successful business person or artist who got it all right on the first go. They learned and adapted. In fact success can even be a hindrance. When Steve jobs was fired from Apple in the 90s, it was heartbreaking. But many times he mentioned how the weight of success was lifted and replaced by the joy and lightness of being a beginner again. Of course during that time he help start Pixar. So don’t be afraid of not knowing, and don’t be afraid of people finding out when you don’t know. Take the time to enjoy the journey of learning. You may discover new and exciting things along the way!
